For a recipient to gain access to data or communications encrypted by the Cy4Secure data protection system, they must prove who they are and be identified on the device they will use. This process is known as multi-factor authentication. Bonafeyed primarily uses Two-factor authentication but also supports disconnected tokens, location or geographical based authentication, and Three-factor biometric tokens.
First time users (those not yet authenticated) will receive a notice either by email or within a protected message. At this point, the recipient simply needs to perform a one-step process of authenticating using either SMS on a smartphone or confirm their email address. A browser plugin or application add-in/on can be installed and the recipient can now securely communicate with the sender.
